Speaking at the denim day commemoration hosted by Lucara Botswana this morning, Healy said one of the other challenges faced in addressing GBV is the concealment of gender-based violence issues, further calling on the public to stop victim blaming .![]()

Denim day is commemorated annually in April in honour of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign was originally triggered by a ruling of the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction. The justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped her rapist remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
