Department/Ward: CT/MRI Ward

Hours: 37.5 HPW Mon-Sun - Rota'd

Pay: Depending on experience

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, HCPC registered Cross-Sectional Radiographer to join the team at North Manchester General Hospital for a 3-month period.

Using the clinical knowledge and competences demonstrated since qualification and as a Senior Radiographer in the specialist areas of CT and MR, carry out the full range of CT/MR examinations referred to the department. The responsibilities for the examination include written justification of CT brain scans and authorisation of urgent scans in line with clinical protocols in the absence of a Consultant Radiologist.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Ensure all patients are positively identified prior to commencement of any examination, as required by IR(ME)R protocol.
  • Select the appropriate scanning protocol required to optimise the diagnostic examination. Using detailed theoretical and practical knowledge of CT and MR to modify these protocols where appropriate, taking into consideration patient condition and/or clinical information required.
  • Physically position the patient for a full range of CT and MR examinations ensuring image quality, patient comfort and safety is maintained at all times.
  • Manipulate scan parameters to optimise the diagnostic value for each individual patient presentation.
  • Following completion of the examination, carry out all image processing procedures to produce the highest quality diagnostic image. This may include digital reconstruction and other image analysis techniques on the diagnostic workstation.
  • Review all scan images, giving advice on any additional imaging procedures required to answer incidental findings. Ensure that urgent findings are communicated to the appropriate clinician and the patient directed accordingly.
  • Inform patient when the examination is complete and ensure they are aware of where they need to go or where/when they will obtain their results.
  • Prepare images and request card for reporting so that they can be reported in a timely manner.
  • In order to maintain accuracy of clinical records, ensure that full patient and examination data is entered onto the CRIS patient management system.
  • Advise patients regarding enquiries concerning their referral and the nature of the examination to be undertaken. Communicate effectively with patients who are anxious regarding the claustrophobic nature of CT and MR.

To be successful, you will need:

  • BSc or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography.
  • Registration with the Health Professional Council as a Radiographer.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection, IR(ME)R 2017, IRR 2017.
  • Experience working within the NHS.
