Insurance and Risk Officer

SO2: £37,653 rising in annual increments to £38,934

Secondment / Fixed Term (12 Months)

We currently have an opportunity for a Claims Handler to work in the Council’s Risk and Insurance team. You will be responsible for handling claims from initial review through to settlement. You will have a case load of 100+ Property and Liability claims.

Where applicable the appointing of specialists from the panel used by the council which will include loss adjusters, engineers, and solicitors. You will also build and maintain relationship with these specialists.

You must be an excellent communicator with proven experience in claims handling experience.

The minimum requirements for the Claims Handler role are:

  • Suitable Claims experience from either the Insurance/Legal sectors or Local Authorities
  • Personal Injury experience.
  • Excellent negotiation experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Willingness to take responsibility and accountability
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft products including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Ensure timely processing of all claims documents and answer enquires relating to claims processing
  • The Claims Handler will be working on claims inside and out of the MOJ Portal.
  • The Claims Handler will be negotiating Settlement of Claims, involving Personal Injury, on the best terms possible following thorough research of all facts.
  • Setting up and administering all types of Claims.
  • Maintaining allocated Caseload of Claims.
  • Maintain and update in-house systems
  • Knowledge of LACHS would be an advantage
