DAILY ASSISTANT GARDENER

New Forest, Hampshire

We seek to employ a full-time experienced assistant gardener with experience to join a small team within a private family estate near Brockenhurst, Hampshire.

Applicants must have an eye for attention to detail and be self-motivated, ability to work alone or under direction, and as part of a team. Flexibility to assist with non-garden estate tasks and be comfortable with horses/dogs when required is essential.

The applicant needs some experience of the day-to-day maintenance of large gardens. Encompassing lawns, hedges, formal herbaceous - mixed borders, woodland/trees and a wide range of shrubs, wildflower areas, ponds, kitchen garden, greenhouse/house plants, ditches, drainage, and fencing.

Requirements:

• Experience and basic knowledge of horticultural practices to include maintaining herbaceous borders, roses, hedges, pruning techniques, pest and disease control, plant propagation, mulching and weed control, compost management, lawn care, hedge/topiary, strimming, leaf blowing, some vegetable and nursery growing, bedding planting and soil management.
• Horticultural qualification preferred but not essential.
• Competence in the safe operations and maintenance of garden machinery to include strimmer’s, sprayers, hedge cutters, mowers, garden/compact tractors and trailers, leaf blowers. Chainsaw and spraying certificates (PA1/PA6) a bonus but not essential.

This is a fulltime position working Monday – Friday from 8.00am – 4.30pm, with some additional watering and summer cover requiring one in three weekends to assist in watering and gardens cover Mid-June – End August. Salary negotiable based on experience, circa £28,000 - £29,999. Must have excellent references. Strictly non-smokers. START DATE ASAP (HU3956)
