We are seeking an Assistant Training and Behaviour Advisor to assist with the assessment and behavioural rehabilitation of dogs in the rehoming centre.

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and normally cares for around 14,000 dogs across its network of 21 rehoming centres in the UK and one in Dublin. Dogs Trust has a non-destruction policy and will never put a healthy dog to sleep.

Our rehoming centres house thousands of dogs each year until they are able to find a loving new home and the success of our centres wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated team of staff and volunteers; there is a real family-community within each of our centres. Come rain or shine, our team are out in all weathers to make sure the dogs have the best possible life. Dealing with thousands of visitors each month, our rehoming centres are the face of Dogs Trust and we pride ourselves on our staff providing the very best in customer service.

Reporting to the centre Training and Behaviour Advisor (TBA), you will evaluate the behavioural needs of dogs entering the centre, designing and reviewing dog training and behaviour modification programmes under the guidance of the TBA, and training / mentoring Canine Carers in the implementation of these programmes. The assistant TBA will also help provide appropriate advice to members of the public in the handling and training of dogs adopted from Dogs Trust.

The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of dog behaviour and welfare, including understanding the principles underlying learning and the ability to write training and behaviour programmes. You'll have excellent communication skills and the ability to and experience in handling difficult dogs but above all you'll be passionate and committed to the work of Dogs Trust. A full, manual driving licence is essential, as driving will be a part of the role.
