Yarona FM is an urban youth broadcaster based in Gaborone Botswana targeting the exciting under 35 audience. The radio station started its 24 hour broadcast on August 22, 1999, and was primarily a regional broadcaster i.e. within Gaborone ( the capital city of Botswana) covering a radius of 75 km from its central transmitter till June 2007 when it was offered a national broadcast license by the Botswana Telecommunications Authority- and began its national rollout covering Botswana's major centres: Lobatse, Mahalapye, Serowe, Palapye, Selibe Phikwe, Francistown and Maun. This foot print represents an urban and peri urban population and gives Yarona FM access to over 60 percent of Botswana’s population
Yarona FM identifies itself with the "freshest" and newest songs, relevant and compelling talk and news content targeted towards Botswana's urban youth audience. Yarona FM is all about positive, high energy, ground breaking, and thought provoking broadcast innovation. Or brand position has evolved from "Re Tswhere Vibe": setswana for "We've Got The Vibe" and "Blazing GC's Most Rocking Tunes", to "Live The Music" when the station went national in 2008.
Yarona FM is the entertainment authority in Botswana, having partnered with Orange in the Urban Legends series of concerts, headlined by Shaggy and Eve respectively. On a smaller scale, Yarona FM has hosted club and outdoor events that have featured local and regional djs like Fresh, Euphonik, Dj Cleo and renowned performers like Liquideep, Zeus, Scar, Zakes Bantwini etc.
We pride ourselves in articulating our audience’s key issues of interest from a socio-economic, lifestyle, political and entertainment point of view well and are well known for our unique on air promotions and contests.
